Billingshurst Bowlers, together with the Clontarf Lawn Bowls Club, Ireland have been invited to take part in a three-way bowling as part of The New York Lawn Bowling Club.

Reaching the milestone of their Centenary – first founded in 1926 - it is the only Lawn Bowls Club in New York. One of Billingshurst’s bowlers, Roger, was strolling through Central Park with no idea the US even had a New York Bowls Club.

He was amazed when asked to come and roll up. He came back to England so excited, and in British fashion decided to say ‘thank you’. Billingshurst captain Barry got a formal invitation to be the British team to be part of the US and Irish teams.

Linda Stevenson from Billingshurst Bowls Club said: “This is a great honour for our small club based in Station Road and we are very, very proud to represent our village in such a prestigious event.

This will be followed by a Gala dinner, where a special premier showing of a documentary of the history The New York Lawn Bowling Club will be shown "low and Slow".

The event has been covered by several American Television companies with the club's President Joe Kelly appearing promoting the sport and their acheivement.

As Barry, Roger, linda, Eddie, Carole, Ray, Bill and our supporter, Norma line up on the green, they are all excited and looking forward to having this great opportunity to play bowls in Central Park, New York.
